Babies are WEIRD!

Published by Jenny on

Our little dude is now FIVE WHOLE MONTHS OLD! There are so many things I just never realized before he came along, too. I’ve Nannied, and learned a lot from that, but it truly isn’t until you have your own child or a child that you live with day-in-and-day-out that you realize babies are really WEIRD! Its true, babies are weird. Our little guy will only burp once you stop patting his back. He will only fall asleep on his side while you rub his head/ pat his back all-the-while laying next to him, which then requires you to move him to his own bed when you go to sleep, which will likely wake him up again.

Our little guy now likes to stay up until one in the morning, just yelling, peacefully, but yelling for the sake of hearing his own voice and in an effort to keep himself awake.

When he was only three weeks old, he pretended to choke, and when I picked him up he smiled… cunning and weird.

He punched himself in the head for a while and people in various online communities assured me it was a normal practice for a baby to comfort themselves. “Keep hard objects out of his hand, and be patient, it will pass” was the general consensus throughout the forums. I’m doing a lot of Googling. I’m making sure my kid isn’t the only weirdo, and you know what? He’s not.

One gal who I’m friends with on social networking that I knew in high school has a daughter the same age, and she apparently startles and slaps herself awake. It mystifies me, but we all have these idiosyncrasies apparently. My goal now is not to raise a “not weird” baby, my goal is to make certain he’s clean, healthy and happy. I figure I’ve done my job if those very basic needs are met. I can make bigger goals for him as he grows.

Cheers
