Working from home 100% is a BIG objective now.
Before we had our baby, my drive was to find a career. Any career. I applied to major companies and a couple of startups, but literally THOUSANDS of jobs in total. I was spammed, and spammed and spammed again by “recruiters” but not many with great reputations, and the more reputable ones were without the jobs to give. It’s been over a year and I still have no job offers other than for insurance jobs. I took one out of desperation, but truth be told, I could have had this job at 18, without the debt from my MBA.
My resume is probably a big, issue, but edit after edit, and I’m giving up home.
After my little bear was born, I wanted more than I’d realized before, to stay-at-home. So I applied to several hundred at-home opportunities.
*crickets chirping
I came to the realization that I could spend another year praying someone to hire me… that would never come to be, or I could use my entrepreneurial spirit and provide a career for myself.
I already have online shops on Etsy, and those are fun… for three months of the year, but truth-be-told nine months of the year is just people favoriting my shop and products. I end up spending more on advertising than I get returned from sales during that time. I could make those shops successful but its not the type of work that I am passionate for now (oh, and I don’t have space for major crafting now. lol).
I have recently signed up with some cool stuff that allows me to make money on my own terms and when I have time. I signed up for Uber. I know many people have issues with this, but I did this for the first time yesterday and its pretty straightforward and worked out to be almost $20 bucks an hour. Its an option until I’m making money doing something else.
I also signed up for something called Skillshare. With Skillshare, you can sign up and can teach classes (also, you can take classes for a small, very worthwhile monthly fee) Its pretty cool. I have an MBA and I own a business, so I plan on talking about that stuff. You don’t make a ton on this site, but its not great deal of work and the average person brings in $3,500 bucks a year. Not too shabby if you have other things in the mix, and again, something you do on your OWN TIME… no set schedule.
I am working on writing an ebook series to sell on Amazon. It takes very little time to write about something that you are passionate about. Once I hone in on some writing skills, I plan on writing a fiction ebook, but for now, I’m trying my hand at this. I can do this on my own time. Also, ebooks tend to take less time to write (since they’re generally shorter). This is a great option if you already have something to tide you over financially like Uber.
My biggest mistake was saying “I need to make a LOT of money right now!” the truth is that I need to make ENOUGH money now and I need to lay the groundwork for a successful future. This is a functional plan for me. This can be a functional plan for you as well.
