Getting Induced… Again?

Published by Jenny on

So I just scheduled a day to get induced. This was not my dream delivery. We were induced with our first. I accredit this to us having lazy babies that simply don’t want to do the whole “being born” thing. I had a dream with Cole of a pleasant water birth in one of the lovely birthing tubs at the hospital we use. The tub stopped the contractions during active labor last time.

The Pitocin hurts! My male doctor insisted that it doesn’t hurt any more with Pitocin, but he also doesn’t have any relatable stories, I’m assuming. Pitocin hurts more than regular contractions. Two hours before pushing with our first, they FINALLY stopped the Pitocin and the epidural and my contractions didn’t hurt as long as I pushed a little. When actual pushing time came, we only had 45 minutes-t0-go and with a very serious, 4th degree tear, I still didn’t hurt the same way I did with those Pitocin contractions.

I have a ridiculous pain threshold, so if you’re getting induced, and you’re planning on ditching the pain meds, I would make sure you have a backup plan “just in case”. Four hours into the Pitocin, we had a mad dash for morphine, which I never wanted to put in our little dude.

Everything turned out great. We still had a natural birth. Cole still got skin-to-skin contact while I was wheeled off for an hour and over 100 stitches…. Things turned out fine. I still, at the end of the day, consider the birth to be a success.

So anywho, on to this pregnancy. I cried when the doctor had me schedule a date for induction… and who knows, maybe Baby #2 will still come before next Saturday, but the feeling that I would have to have all of that toxic crap pumped through my veins… the idea that I would likely have another long labor (Pitocin labor tends to run from 24-72 hours, ours was 36 hours last time), just made me feel very defeated.

On some intellectual level, I understand its something 100% out of my control, but there’s something innately disheartening about it too.

I’ll update if anything changes…. Like a baby turning up before Saturday. Lol
