Earlier Than Expected, But Right on Time

Last night, shortly after writing my last blog post I went into the hospital because I tested my blood pressure and it was pretty high. I had Preeclampsia after delivering my last son, so I knew it was a risk factor and decided to exercise extra caution because of it.

It was high, and so the asked that I stay and be induced. At around 12:30 I had the pitocin installed in my IV, and I was on my way. Alex wasn’t there. We couldn’t get anyone to watch our almost two-year-old, because everyone was pretty much asleep by this point. It was my first night without Alex since mid-December 2014… an experience made up of equal parts weird and terrifying. By 8am, my mother had gone to our place, and subbed in for Alex and by 8:30 he was at the hospital.

A little after Noon today, June 22nd, we welcomed our baby number two, Silas into the world. He weighs 9lbs 4.5oz. He’s perfect.

I didn’t want to be induced again, but it happened. I didn’t want pain meds, but the pitocin makes it imperative for me. At the end of the day, I had a healthy baby though, and I don’t care about much more than that. I’ve come to see the birth plans I’ve so diligently, carefully written, as more of a guideline… and just in time for us to not have any more kids… I hope… I love the two we have, and while fostering or adopting may be nice down the road, my body and mind are going to appreciate the deficit of future pregnancies.
