The Leash.

Published by Jenny on

We bought a leash for our child. The doctor and the behavioral evaluators that came to the house said Cole was behind in speech. What he’s not behind on is his physical aptitude. He basically plays at the physical level of a four-and-a-half year old. He’s fast, very fast, he climbs, he can do rolly-polys (sp) and anything else you might not picture a two-year old doing. He needed to go outside, but we had fear he would break free from us and find a road before we could catch him… We needed to let him outside for his own sake, so be bought a baby backpack leash.

This is one of my favorite purchases. He doesn’t mind it, and we can feel safer with him running on the ground, because he can only go so far, so fast. My not-so-favorite thing is that people stare at you when you make this decision. Their eyes pierce you like a circus act of flying daggers…coming from an array of directions, and you have to be able to ignore it. No one has said anything to us about it…. so far, but I’ve read countless tales of strangers with strong opinions on why babies shouldn’t be on leashes, So I’m waiting to hear someone say something.

Thankfully, for me, I give ZERO S%#ts about what a stranger thinks about my baby being safely and happily on a leash. If I risked the safety of my child to appease strangers, that’s the day I question my parenting.

Dear world…. my baby is on a leash… DEAL WITH IT. =)
